Radio Jubba is a radio station based in Baidoa, located approximately 250 km northwest of Mogadishu, Somalia. In April 2009, the station made international headlines when heavily-armed members of Al-Shabaab stormed its studios, closed the station, and arrested three journalists: station manager Muktar Mohamed Atosh, editor Mohamed Adawe Adan, and reporter Mohamed Nur Mohamed. The raid was ordered by the region's head of security, Sheik Hassan Derow, who accused the station of 'not obeying the administration's orders.' This incident exemplifies the climate of terror imposed by Somali Islamist insurgents on the local press.
