CAPE VERDE

The Cape Verdean media fabric is particularly active and the archipelago of approximately 500,000 inhabitants has many public and private media.

Some of these structures are Brazilian or Portuguese, but most of them are state property; a context that in no way hinders the archipelago's freedom of expression, which is unanimously recognized as established and widely extended (Editor's note: RSF, Unesco, MediaRequest).

Many of these media broadcast newspapers and programs, mostly in Portuguese, in which music finds a prominent place. Others are in Crioulo, an Afro-Portuguese language. Still others are specialized in Cape Verdean music, most often these are radio stations and online media.
