In Cameroon, a recent estimate indicates that there are 600 media outlets, but they are mainly distributed in urban areas. Several hundred private print media titles, both francophone and anglophone, are also identified, but only about fifteen newspapers are regularly published. Private radios are numerous but have only local or regional coverage. The country also has a few private television channels, but they remain local. Broadcasting, especially radio, is mainly followed due to poor dissemination of the press. The internet is not subject to particular restrictions, but only one-fifth of the population has access. However, online media is gradually developing. The main public media group in Cameroon is the national radio and television company CRTV (Cameroon Radio Television). The state also controls the Cameroon Press and Publishing Company, which publishes the Cameroon Tribune newspaper, whose print run and distribution throughout the country make it the most widely read publication in the country.
