The country has a diverse media landscape and is known for its state guarantees of press freedom. The country has dozens of newspapers with regular publications. However, as in many African countries, radio is the most popular media. The country has over 480 radio stations, mostly private, community, or university-based. The television sector includes about sixty operators. In addition, the country has seen rapid growth in internet usage, with more than 35% of users in 2016. Blogs and social media are particularly popular in urban centers. The country also has press agencies, including the Ghana News Agency. The most popular radio stations are Peace FM, Joy FM, Citi FM, and Adom FM. The most well-known television operators include TV3, Joy Prime, UTV, GBC, Citi TV, and Metro TV. In the print media sector, the Graphic Communications Group and New Times Corporation are dominant, with their respective titles Graphic Mirror, Graphic Sports, Graphic Business, Graphic Showbiz, Junior Graphic, and Ghanaian Times. Recently, the country has seen a major development with several media launching online news sites. |
