LIBERIA

Liberia has many media. The written press is relatively developed. About ten newspapers are published there but their circulation is limited to the capital. Low literacy rates and high prices make radio the main source of information for Liberians. Monrovia is home to over 15 independent radio stations, at least two of which broadcast nationwide. In addition, about fifty community radio stations exist across Liberia. The television channels are six in number. Internet is still underdeveloped but is used by 6% of Liberians. Most media are not self-sufficient and rely heavily on government advertising and financial support from politicians or international donors.
